The intent to position Mauritius as a globally-competitive player in the fields of life sciences, blue economy, logistics and high-value added manufacturing is unlikely to bear fruits in the near future. The financial services and ICT sectors remain biased towards low-value added activities as they continue to suffer from a critical lack of competencies. Over the 2013-2017 period, 47% of the total amount of Gross Direct Investment captured by Mauritius was geared towards real estate activities which have limited positive spill-over effects and contribution towards the reinforcement of the country’s capability to create and capture sustainable value.
